PT, I didn't "know" that SN would continue up, but after doing these on paper and with real money for the last 2 years, certain stocks pop up in the list over and over. When they do, it is almost a sure bet they will "swing" into a good profit.

CLF is another that does well time after time.

Over time, these are just absolute money makers. Don't overanalyze. They are being used as weekly swing trades just as commonly as AAPL and others are being used as Daily Swings by day traders. Hence, the volume is there week after week.

I got so caught up in charts with multiple "indicators", that I forgot the basics. When you back out and just let these swing (again, I am using Crock Pot) week after week with 1+% (most times 5% or more) profits, it just snowballs.

Sometimes simple is better.

Quick question, how do you guys pick your stocks? I.e., next week I see 6 stocks popping up (IDGX, LABD, NM, AKAO, BCEI, and SINO); IDGX is ranked first (3.00 reward and 1.77 risk) but all of them pretty much have a better performance. LABD and NM also have better number if you subtract the reward with the risk. Does that play into your decision about choosing which stock is better or do you go solely on the reward and use the performance in a tie? Thanks.

T_charp,
Looking at MACD, ADX, RSI, and volume trends, I'd rank them:LABD, BCEI, NM, SINO, AKAO, IDXG.
I will check scottrade for news, insider action, and filings for any surprises..
good hunting.

Does the filter take into account previous pops or is it just the odds of one of the stocks going up by 5% at one point during the week? I feel like BCEI and AKAO have had huge runs and would be more inclined to go with LABD or NM.

It's strictly a win-lose situation, well not strictly, a lot of study and a little "eyeballing" goes into it.
BCEI: Chap 11 filing on 1/04, Fir Tree inc, bought 3.6M shares on 1/17, and Bill Barret showed interest on 1/17

SINO: Chinese company, a lot of insider selling. I'll pass

AKAO: The first ever insider purchase. 11 insiders bought 5.5M shares, interesting

Go figure

Went for AKAO @ 18.30 in pre-market, could have got it a dime cheaper at open.

Graft, a dime on an 18 dollar stock is nothing. you did well.

JNUG and JCP are saving me today. Keep an eye on JCP gapping up. Tons of hedge fund call volume on it over the past week.

What is the Tro's Crock Pot filter that you use right now? Is it the original one posted here?

PT,
AKAO, not doing well, GPL, and LABD close to 5%
Right now I am using results from several of the variant filters. Looks like the majority of the choices were from a variant using a +4% -8% spread and 13 week look-back (posted below). Using the 4-8 % spread to select, and 13 week average weekly gain and last week performance to set expectaions.

Fetcher[
/* TRO STAT SCAN for SWING TRADERS - use only on Saturday and Sunday */

draw Avg13WkProfit
/* find weekly losss */
set{wloop, weekly low - weekly open}
set{Long_Loss, wloop / weekly open }

add column win_count{wins}
